Questions, answered

Is the maze maker free?

Yes. Generate and download as many printable mazes as you like, free, with no account and no watermark. There is no paid tier to upgrade to.

Can I get the solution?

Yes. Every print includes a solution page that traces the path from start to finish, and you can toggle Show answers on in the preview.

How do I get a different maze?

Press New maze for a fresh layout, or change the difficulty or size. Every maze is generated from scratch, so you will not get the same one twice.

Is every maze solvable?

Yes. Each one is built so there is exactly one path from the start to the finish, with no dead loops and no unreachable corners.

What is the difference between difficulty and size?

Size is how many squares the maze is. Difficulty is how deceptive the wrong turns are. On Easy a wrong turn dies within about five squares, so a child can rule it out quickly and get clear feedback that they need to go back. On Hard a wrong branch winds on for ten squares on average and up to sixty, and the route through wanders over most of the grid. They are separate, so you can print a small maze that is genuinely hard, or a big gentle one.

What should I pick for young children?

Easy, at around 10 squares across, suits ages four to six: wide corridors, dead ends that end quickly and a route you can follow with a finger. Medium at 16 across is the classroom default for ages six to nine. Hard at 24 or more is a proper sit-down puzzle for teens and adults.

Where does the maze start and finish?

The entrance is the green arrow on the top edge and the exit is the red arrow on the bottom edge. They move from maze to maze, because we pick the pair of openings that makes the route through the maze as long as possible.

What do I get when I print?

A clean PDF sized for US Letter or A4. The maze scales to fill the page with thick, easy-to-follow walls, and the solution sits on its own page.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to install. The maze is generated in your browser and never sent anywhere.
